Meet ‘She Started It’ director Nora Poggi
On Thursday night at 8:30, the Fort Myers Film Festival screens a 90-minute documentary directed by Nora Poggi and Insiyah Saeed. Through intimate, action-driven storytelling, She Started It explores the cultural roots of female underrepresentation in entrepreneurship—including pervasive self-doubt, fear of failure, and risk aversion among young women. It exposes, too, the structural realities women face as they become entrepreneurs, including lack of female role models and investors and the persistent dearth of venture capital funding made available to women-led companies.
Nora Poggi is a French journalist with a background in film production who has been interviewing key players in Silicon Valley for the past four years. After graduating from two of France’s top schools, Sciences Po Paris and La Sorbonne, she moved to San Francisco to work for French social network Viadeo.com. She then went back to her first love, film, with the production company Lucky Dragon Productions, where she trained in all areas of film production and promotion. At the same time, she started freelance reporting for Examiner.com on major Silicon Valley events, producing video interviews with tech industry players. She now also writes about entrepreneurship and tech for French newspaper Usine Nouvelle.
