Spotlight on ‘Phantom’ actress Maxwell Porterfield

misc-phantom-01Opening December 29 on the main stage at the Broadway Palm is Yeston & Kopit’s Phantom. Playing the role of the Phantom’s muse, Christine Daae’, is Maxwell Porterfield.

Porterfield is a newcomer to the Broadway Palm, but as local audiences are about to discover, she is a spirited crowd favorite and a passionate performer! She made her professional debut in 2010 as Papagena in Sparkling City Light Opera’s production of The Magic Flute. Her most recent professional performance was as Despina in Opera del West’s production of Così fan tutte. Her roles at the Moores Opera Center include The Magic Flute as Pamina, Il cappello di paglia di Firenze as La Modista, Le Nozze di Figaro as Barbarina and in Daniel Catán’s misc-phantom-07Salsipuedes as La China.

Ms. Porterfield performed with Spotlight on Opera in Austin for two years. Her roles with Spotlight on Opera included Despina in Così fan tutte (2012), La Novizia in Suor Angelica (2012), Frasquita in Carmen (2011) and Nannetta (cv) in Falstaff (2011).

In 2012 she was the Third Place winner at Sparkling City Light Opera’s Emerging Artist Competition and in 2013 she performed in the Final Concert at the Classical Singer Competition in Boston. She has also given a Benefit Recital in the Corpus Christi Bay area to raise money for Imagine No Malaria.

misc-phantom-11Ms. Porterfield graduated in 2015 from the University of Houston with a Bachelor’s Degree and is pursuing a Master’s Degree in performance at the University of Tennessee.
