Spotlight on ‘Birds’ costume designer Alena Stevenson

Alena Stevenson has joined the Lab Theater team as their new resident costume designer.

Stevenson is better known for her film work. She appears as a partier in Patrick Mitchell’s Apples, Oranges, Lemons & Limes, which just took Best Local Film honors at the 12th Annual Fort Myers Film Festival. You will also see her in the forthcoming indie film When Is It Time to Grow Up?, which is presently in post-production.

In addition to her work as an actor in those films, Alena served as Sound Recordist, SFX Makeup Artist and second assistant cinema in Apples, Oranges, Lemons & Limes. She also was second assistant camera on the short film The One for Me (in post-production), wardrobe and wardrobe production assistant in the short films When Is It Time to Grow Up? and Homebody, respectively, a make-up artist for When Is It Time to Grow Up? and production assistant in the short films The One for Me and Homebody.

“It was last May (2021) when I first discovered my passion for filmmaking and decided to attend the Fort Myers Film Festival to begin networking,” shares Alena. Just 365 days later (give or take), she got to be on the other side of the equation, participating in the after-screening Q&A and red carpet photos.

While she may be working behind the scenes again at Lab Theater, Stevenson’s presence will be keenly felt during The Birds, where her design work includes costumes not only for the principals, but the actors who appear in the “parroty” as birds of various sizes, shapes and colors.
