Gabrielle Macafee 01Only two more T.G.I.M.s remain before the Eighth Annual Fort Myers Film Festival opens on March 23, 2018. The next one takes place on January 1, and there’s no better way to ring in 2018 than with indie movies and live music inside the most beautiful building in downtown Fort Myers! January’s T.G.I.M. celebrity judges are Kinfay Moroti, Gabrielle Macafee 02Joseph Pearson and Darrell Nutt. Gabrielle A. Macafee and Darrell Nutt provide the entertainment.

This is a return engagement for singer, songwriter and pianist Gabrielle Macafee. She supplied the entertainment during intermission of the August, 2016 T.G.I.M. screenings inside the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center. Now based in New York, Macafee sound is unique and filled with color that draws upon her roots in pop, jazz and gospel. You can hear all these influences in her newest song, Strain, Gabrielle Macafee 03which is “simply about finding God in tangible, emotional, very human moments and experiences.”

If you haven’t heard Gabrielle on SoundCloud, Spotify or live at T.G.I.M., then news alert! Gabrielle has a really, really good voice and huge vocal range. “There were a couple of times she reminded me of Adele,” Gabrielle Macafee 04one audience member effused to another as her performance drew to a close the last time she played at T.G.I.M. That, of course, is high praise indeed.

Macafee comes from a rich musical tradition. Her dad plays drums. Her mom sings and plays piano. Gabrielle dabbled on the piano when she was little, but didn’t fully Gabrielle Macafee Performs 04embrace the instrument until recently when it dawned on her one day that she could make music that no one else has ever sung and nobody else has ever heard before.

“I thought that was a really cool idea,” says Gabrielle, who writes her own music, drawing inspiration for from her experiences. One of her songs took two awards for a cappella music (Best Original Song by a Scholastic Group and Best High School Song) at the 2015 Contemporary A Cappella Gabrielle Macafee Performs 02Recording Awards (CARA), which is sort of the a cappella equivalent of The Grammys. She wrote and recorded the song with the Cypress Lake High School Center for the Arts vocal group TAG. Titled Stay Gold, Macafee characterizes the song as an inspirational anthem about staying true to yourself. It is available on iTunes and Spotify.

It is talent like Macafee’s that Eric Raddatz and Melissa DeHaven Gabrielle Macafee Performs 03strive to deliver during each month’s T.G.I.M. And it’s just one more reason (seriously, do you really need more reasons?) for attending Intellectualization Mondays. Doors open for cocktails at 6:30, with screenings beginning promptly at 7:00.
