Lehigh Acres High brings Addams Family to 2024 Musical Theatre Awards
The High School Musical Theatre Awards take place at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 9 at the Barbara B Mann Performing Art Hall at FSW. Started in 2008 by Barbara Mann GM Scott Saxson, the High School Musical Theatre Awards celebrate local high school actors, orchestras, their musical productions and the hard work those students do every year. Among the eight area schools taking part in the Awards this year is Lehigh Acres High.
Lehigh Acres High School performed The Addams Family this year. It’s the musical that celebrates the wackiness in every family – as well as every father’s nightmare. Wednesday Addams, the ultimate princess of darkness, has grown up and fallen in love with a sweet, smart young man from a respectable family whom her parents have never met. She confides in her father and begs him not to tell her mother. Now, Gomez Addams must do something he’s never done before– keep a secret from his beloved wife, Morticia. Everything will change for the whole family on the fateful night they host a dinner for Wednesday’s “normal” boyfriend and his parents.
The Addams Family first came into existence as a series of cartoons in The New Yorker, but the creepy and kooky, mysterious and spooky family became known ’round the nation when the TV adaptation premiered. Characters like Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Lurch, Grandmama, Wednesday, Pugsley, Pubert Addams and Thing all come to life in the stage production, which premiered on Broadway in 2010. The musical has been a fan favorite on the theatrical scene ever since.
Also participating in this year’s HSMTA are Bishop Verot High School, Canterbury School, Cypress Lake High School, Ida S. Baker High School, Island Coast High School, North Fort Myers High School and Oasis High School.

Tom Hall is both an amateur artist and aspiring novelist who writes art quest thrillers. He is in the final stages of completing his debut novel titled "Art Detective," a story that fictionalizes the discovery of the fabled billion-dollar Impressionist collection of Parisian art dealer Josse Bernheim-Jeune, thought by many to have perished during World War II when the collection's hiding place, Castle de Rastignac in southern France, was destroyed by the Wehrmacht in reprisal for attacks made by members of the Resistance operating in the area. A former tax attorney, Tom holds a bachelor's degree as well as both a juris doctorate and masters of laws in taxation from the University of Florida. Tom lives in Estero, Florida with his fiancee, Connie, and their four cats.
