Ernesto Lasso de la Vega
Among the Strictly Local short films being screened by the Fort Myers Film Festival this week is Deborah Smith Ford’s Shooting, directed by Dr. Ernesto Lasso de la Vega, Mario K. Maturo and Joe Reyes.
Ernesto Lasso de la Vega is a biologist for Lee County and a Charlotte County resident. In addition to Shooting, he has directed Praise the Teacher (documentary short completed in 2013) and Casting (short, 2014). Besides Shooting, he has also produced two shorts, The Meaning of Life (2017) and What’s the Point (2016). He was Director of Cinematography for the short film A Related Matter (2019), 
Director of Photography for What’s the Point, and a cinematographer for The Crazies Are Out (short, 2018), Shooting, The Meaning of Life and Casting (short, 2014).
On the acting side, he has appeared in seven films, including Loor al Maestro (short completed in 2013), as an officer in the jail in the Curtis Collins feature Hanging Millstone (2019), Sargent Weller in The Crazies Are Out, Jared in Shooting, Rex in The Meaning of Life, Dusty Gates in the video Pose Down 
(2007) and as Fernandez and Leon in One Evening (2004)
Shooting will be screened in the Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center as part of Shorts Block Ten, which begins at 7:10 p.m. on Saturday, October 24.

Tom Hall is both an amateur artist and aspiring novelist who writes art quest thrillers. He is in the final stages of completing his debut novel titled "Art Detective," a story that fictionalizes the discovery of the fabled billion-dollar Impressionist collection of Parisian art dealer Josse Bernheim-Jeune, thought by many to have perished during World War II when the collection's hiding place, Castle de Rastignac in southern France, was destroyed by the Wehrmacht in reprisal for attacks made by members of the Resistance operating in the area.
