‘Artful 8’ explores psychic significance of the number 8
The Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center stages Artful 8 in its first-floor Grand Atrium during the month of August. The exhibition presents an exquisite display of art showcasing mathematics from a spiritual and visual standpoint.
In numerology, the number 8 embodies the exquisite equilibrium between the material and spiritual realms. The paramount essence of this number resides in its 
captivating shape. Behold its symmetrical beauty, for it stands as the epitome of cosmic balance and unwavering stability. Moreover, the number 8 exudes an unparalleled force and fortitude, encapsulated within its symbolism: the infinite loop. Thus, 8 becomes intertwined with an unceasing surge of energy and might, whether in matters of, opulence, vitality, or sagacity. Prepare to be enthralled by the dramatic allure of the mighty 8, as it unveils the secrets of boundless power and everlasting abundance.
Eight different artists were assigned one aspect of the number 8. They spent a year delving into the number’s meaning to create their unique take on the subject. This is what they’ve prepared:
Balance & Harmony: Maria Collier explores the idea of balance and harmony in her works, utilizing the visual symmetry of the number 8 as inspiration.- Infinite Loop: This section of the gallery showcases artworks by Mully that play with the concept of an infinite loop and draw parallels with the mathematical representation of the number 8.
- Cultural Connections: Mariapia Malerba delves into the cultural significance of the number 8, drawing inspiration from various
traditions and her interpretations of this numeral. - Transformation and Renewal: The transformative nature of the number 8 is explored by Juliana Versari in this section with artworks that depict metamorphosis growth and renewal.
- Lucky Charms: Anthony Gartner focuses on the luck and prosperity associated with the number 8, with artists creating works that evoke positive energies and good fortune.
- Cosmic Dimensions: Cesar Aguilera takes a cosmic approach, connecting the number 8 to
celestial bodies and cosmic cycles. - Numerology and Mathematics: The mathematical properties of the number 8 are explored by Brian Weaver, with artworks that incorporate patterns, sequences, and mathematical concepts.
- Personal Journeys: This section showcases deeply personal interpretations of the number 8, where Bradford Hermanreflects on his life journeys and experiences, weaving them into their creations.
Opening night takes place during Art Walk on August 2, 2024, from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. Artful 8 will be on display through August 29, 2024.
An open-call group show called Cinematic Devotion will be on display in August in the second-floor Capital Gallery, while Sidney’s Rooftop Sculpture Garden will feature dance music by DJ Skubii from 7:00 to 11:00 p.m.
The Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center is located at 2301 First Street in the historic downtown Fort Myers River District.
About the Author
Tom Hall is both an amateur artist and aspiring novelist who writes art quest thrillers. He is in the final stages of completing his debut novel titled "Art Detective," a story that fictionalizes the discovery of the fabled billion-dollar Impressionist collection of Parisian art dealer Josse Bernheim-Jeune, thought by many to have perished during World War II when the collection's hiding place, Castle de Rastignac in southern France, was destroyed by the Wehrmacht in reprisal for attacks made by members of the Resistance operating in the area. A former tax attorney, Tom holds a bachelor's degree as well as both a juris doctorate and masters of laws in taxation from the University of Florida. Tom lives in Estero, Florida with his fiancee, Connie, and their four cats.
