‘GAUZE’ filmmaker Suzanne Garber in the frame

Among the short films to be screened this year by the Fort Myers Film Festival is GAUZE: Unraveling Global Healthcare, a 26-minute documentary directed by Suzanne Garber.

Suzanne Garber was previously was COO of International, where she led strategy and operations to evacuate thousands from catastrophes worldwide including the Arab spring, Haiti earthquake, and Japanese tsunami. Her early career began at FedEx, culminating in the role of Managing Director South America, based in Brazil.

She serves on the board of Vigilint, a provider of real-time, remote medical services, the American Red Cross of Eastern Pennsylvania, and chairs the board of Bunker Labs, a business accelerator for veteran entrepreneurs. Her past board work includes chairing several entities for a Singaporean medical assistance firm, a Mexican logistics company, an international executive membership organization, and a small division of the U.S. State Department.

A dual US/EU citizen who holds a bachelor degree with honors in foreign languages from Rutgers University and a Masters degree with honors from the University of Pennsylvania, Garber was reared in Africa, Latin America, and Europe. She is fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese and teaches Strategic Management at Temple University. Her professional work has taken her to every continent and 100+ countries.

GAUZE: Unravelling Global Healthcare is her first documentary. To make it, visited 174 hospitals in 24 countries, interviewing 65 international healthcare experts on the subject of what constitutes “the best” when it comes to healthcare services. For more about the film, read here.

The documentary will be shown twice during the Fort Myers Film Festival. Your first opportunity to view GAUZE: Unravelling Global Healthcare is at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 22 in the IMAG History & Science Center at 2000 Cranford Ave. It will be screened again at the Alliance for the Arts during the 10:00 a.m. block on Saturday, March 24.
