Jane the Plain will be presented at 8 p.m. on April 2, 3, 4, 9, 10 and 11, with 2 p.m. matinees on Saturday April 4 and 11. Tickets are $22 or $11 for students with proper ID and $5 for FSW students. Spotlight on ‘Jane the Plain’ playwright August Schulenburg (03-27-15)

Jane the Plain 07Theatre Conspiracy and the Florida Southwestern State College Theatre Department are partnering to present the Florida premiere of Jane the Plain, April 2 – 11 at the The Alliance for the Arts in Fort Myers. Written by playwright August Schulenburg, the play was a finalist for the 2013 Theatre Conspiracy New Play Contest, the winner of the Full Length Play Category for The Chameleon Theatre Circle’s 13th Annual New Play Festival, a Finalist for the Bloomington Playwrights Project’s 2013 Woodard/Newman Drama Award, and was featured in Stella Adler Studio of Acting’s 2013 First Breath Playwriting Festival, the Brick Jane the Plain 03Theatre’s Oven Series and Purple Rep’s Dark Night Serials Series.

August Schulenburg is the Associate Director of Communications for the Theatre Communications Group, a board member of the Network of Ensemble Theaters and Artistic Director of Flux Theatre Ensemble, which he co-founded with his wife Heather Cohn. With Flux, he directed Jane the Plain 04Ajax in Iraq (NYITA nomination), A Midsummer Nights Dream, and Food:Souls Goldsboro and Volleygirls.  As an actor with Flux, he has played Dr. X in Hearts Like Fists, Ezekiel in 8 Little Antichrists (NYITA nomination), and the Professor in Rue. As a playwright, his work with Flux includes Riding the Bull, Rue, Other Bodies, The Lesser Seductions of History, Jacob’s House, DEINDE and Honey Fist.

His other plays include Carrin Beginning, Kidding Jane, Good Hope, Dark Matter, Dream Walker, Jane the Plain 06Denny and Lila, Encryption, Jane the Plain. In addition to Flux, Schulenburg’s plays have been produced and developed at the Lark Play Development Center, Bay Area Playwrights Festival, Ensemble Studio Theatre, Chelsea Playhouse, Theater for the New City, Portland Stage Company, Dayton Playhouse, Colonial Players, Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival, Contemporary Stage Company, Abingdon Theater Company, Gideon Productions, New Amerikan Theatre, Penobscot Theatre, Jane the Plain 05Impetuous Theater Group, Decades Out, Soundtrack Series, Reverie Productions, Wolf 359, Blue Box Productions, Piper McKenzie, Boomerang Theatre Company, Adaptive Arts, Hall High School, Nosedive Productions, MTWorks, Purple Repertory, Valley Repertory Company, The Brick Theater, CAPS LOCK Theatre, Chameleon Theatre Circle, Retro Productions, Elephant Run District,  and TheatreLAB. He is a 2013-14 Lark Playwrights Workshop Fellow and a member of the Propulsion Lab for Mission to (dit)Mars. His work has also been published in the New York Theater Review, Stage and Screen, Indie Theater Now, Midway Journal, NoPassport Press and in two issues of Carrier Pigeon. He also writes for film and television with MozzleStead Productions.

Theatre Conspiracy and FSW Theatre Department partner to present Florida premiere of ‘Jane the Plain’ (03-26-15)

The production will be directed by Theatre Conspiracy’s Producing Artistic Director Bill Taylor.

Football, popularity and the clash of the gods: it’s all going down at Plainview High School’s homecoming game in the comic fairy tale Jane the Plain. Jane’s status takes a sudden rise after she saves a mysterious girl and is given the gift of Jane the Plain 01beauty. Everyone starts falling for her: quarterback Scotty, second-stringer Lesson, even the most popular girl in school, Lexi. As the jealous Betty seeks to eliminate her newfound rival, Leonard tries to win his best friend Jane back. But when a mysterious man starts haunting Scotty, this battle of love and social status takes a dangerous turn of cosmic proportions. What if the wrong choice in high school really could end the world?
